A New World Order demands the end of European complacency

The EU is facing the double pressure of external competition and internal complacency. Its growth is anaemic, it’s productivity declining and it’s economic model increasingly obsolete.

We need to be ready to shake off the certainties of the old century and adjust to the current realities: The consensus on multilateral free trade has vanished, the stock of energy and critical materials are mostly in the hands of strategic rivals, and an US abandonment could be likely result of this year’s US elections.

RPE members and experts exchanged with Arancha Gonzalez Laya (Sciences Po), Denis Redonnet and Guntram Wolff (Bruegel - Improving economic policy) on how the continent can prepare for American abandonment.
